Duplicate Bridge: Dec. 17

A unit game with extra points will be held today, Saturday, Dec. 17, at noon in the Airport Bridge Club and the Bridge Center of Buffalo and at 1 p.m. in the Lockport Duplicate Bridge Club.

The Airport Club holds its annual Cookie Bash on Monday, Dec. 19, with games at 10 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. (extra-point ACBL membership game). Other extra-point games at the club next week will be at 11 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20, at noon next Saturday, Dec. 24, and at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 21 (the ACBL-wide International Fund Game with hand records and analysis by Frank Stewart).

The Lockport Duplicate Club will host a Christmas party at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 20.

Congratulations to Art Matthies, the Buffalo player who earned the most master points in last week’s District 5 Sectional Tournament at the Clubs (STaC), which took place in ACBL-sanctioned bridge clubs in an area that includes Buffalo, Cleveland and Pittsburgh. He finished the week with 19.17 points and was sixth in the district overall.

Other local players who did well in the STaC included Jerry Geiger, seventh overall with 18.95; Tom Koralewski, 12th overall with 13.16; Ted Kahn, 18th overall with 11.96; John Ziemer, 22nd overall with 11.64; and John and Martha Welte, tied for 23rd overall with 11.57.
