An
online substitute has been arranged for this weekend’s Buffalo Spring
Sectional Tournament, which has been canceled due to the pandemic.
It’s “Buffalo
United” on Bridge Base Online, which will be played in BBO Competitive under ACBL
Virtual Clubs at bridgebase.com. It is
open to all players with permission from their club managers.
Bill Finkelstein from
Airport Bridge Club has given blanket permission for all his players to take
part. Players can designate a portion of their $6 entry fee for their home club
by emailing Dian Petrov at dpetrov@roadrunner.com.
Unlike a sectional
tournament, which awards silver master points, the games will award only black
points, but at 150% of the usual club rating. Results will be posted at unit116.com.
Open pairs games will be held
at 10:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Friday, April 24, and Saturday, April 25. Sunday,
April 26, will offer an open Swiss pairs barometer game at 10:30 a.m., playing
24 boards. Six minutes are allotted to play each board. When rounds run past
the time limit, boards are immediately taken away.
Registration begins two
hours prior to starting time. Both partners must be signed onto the BBO website
to register. Fees are paid in BBO Dollars, which must be purchased on the
website.

The ACBL continues to
recommend that all club games and tournaments through May 25 be
canceled or postponed due to Covid-19. Expect that recommendation to be
extended to a later date. All clubs in the Buffalo area are closed until
further notice.

Until then, players are
turning to virtual games on the internet. The ACBL has joined
with Bridge Base Online to provide club games awarding master points while
giving support to home clubs. Home clubs provide the online directors.
The Bridge Center of
Buffalo is taking part in the BBO games every day at 2:15 and 7:15 p.m.,
although games may be canceled if not enough players sign up. Fee is $5. For

Unit 116 also has
canceled the Non-Life Master Sectional Tournament May 16 and
17 and the Spring Session of Youth Bridge Lessons. They will not be
rescheduled.
