The Summer 2020 North
American Bridge Championships July 16 to 26 in
Montreal, featured on the latest cover of Bridge Bulletin, the monthly magazine
that the ACBL sends to its members, is no longer happening, the ACBL website
announced this week. The 2020 Youth NABC and Collegiate Bridge Bowl, also
scheduled for July in Montreal, have been canceled as well.
•
• •
The ACBL continues to
recommend that all club games and tournaments through May 25 be
canceled or postponed due to Covid-19. Expect that recommendation to be
extended to a later date. All clubs in the Buffalo area are closed until
further notice.
•
• •
Until then, players are
turning to virtual games on the internet. The ACBL has joined
with Bridge Base Online to provide club games awarding master points while
giving support to home clubs. Home clubs provide the online directors.
The Bridge Center of
Buffalo is taking part in the BBO games every day at 2:15 and 7:15 p.m.,
although games may be canceled if not enough players sign up. Fee is $5. For
more info, visit bridgecenterofbuffalo.com
and bridgebase.com.

The Duplicate Bridge
column is compiled weekly by News Staff Reporter Dale
Anderson. The print version normally appears in the Life & Arts section in
the Saturday edition of The Buffalo News.
If it’s not in its usual
place, Google “Duplicate Bridge” plus the current Saturday date, which should
bring up a link to it on buffalonews.com,
the Buffalo News website.
Sometimes the online
version does not materialize on the Buffalo News website, at least not in a
timely fashion. Worse yet, columns from previous weeks currently cannot be
accessed on the News website. But all is not lost. They are available in an
appendix to Dale Anderson’s bridge blog at http://newsdupli.blogspot.com/
The online version
contains unabridged scores and a longer list of notices. Deadline for
submission of scores and notices is Tuesday night. Email danderson@buffnews.com
or dahotwings@aol.com.
Office phone is 716-849-4420.

Now a Gold Life Master,
Dale Anderson is approaching a career total of 2,700 master points. He blogs
about his quest for the next measure of achievement, Emerald Life Master (3,500
points), and other bridge adventures here.
