Duplicate Bridge: June 14

The Airport Bridge Club and the Bridge Center of Buffalo will take part next Saturday, June 21, in the ACBL’s Longest Day marathon, which supports Alzheimer’s disease awareness, but in different ways.
The Airport Club will hold pairs games every two hours – at 9 a.m. with breakfast, at 11 a.m. with lunch, at 1 p.m. with snacks, at 3 p.m. with dinner and at 5 p.m. with desserts, with double points and a $4 fee per session.
The Bridge Center will have pairs games at 9 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and a team game at 7 p.m. Last year the Bridge Center raised more than $4,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association.

The Sectional Tournament at the Clubs (STaC) concludes with pairs games today, Saturday, June 14, at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the Airport Bridge Club and at noon in the Bridge Center of Buffalo.
The Airport Club also will have STaC Swiss teams at 11 a.m. Sunday, June 15, plus NAP qualifying triple-point games at 11 a.m. Monday, June 16, to Friday, June 20, and the Beat Bill game with the $100 prize at 7:15 p.m. Monday.

Best local score in the World Wide Bridge Contest last Saturday, June 7, was the 61.28% registered at the Bridge Center of Buffalo by Judy Padgug and Meg Klamp. Among 4,188 pairs playing in 235 clubs in 26 countries, they ranked 660th.
* * *
Speaking of scores, any pair achieving more than 75% in a game gets recognized in the Bridge Bulletin, the ACBL’s monthly magazine. In next month’s issue, look for local players Walt Olszewski and Sushil Amlani, who registered a whopping 78.3% at the Lockport Duplicate Club on June 3. “This score is NOT a misprint,” director Marge Schomers noted in her e-mail reporting the results.
